The sustainable story with SIPs is pretty cut and dry. They're 100% recyclable, provide 40 to 60% energy cost savings, and use 50% less lumber than traditional stick-framed homes with fiberglass insulation. Built with the integrity of steel I-beams, our structural insulated panels are superior in construction, performance, and insulation. But most of all, they're the deepest shade of green. Better for your homeA Structural Insulated Panel or SIP is just what it sounds like: A pre-made wall that serves as both frame and insulation. The panel is made of two pieces of Oriented Strand Board(OSB) sandwiching expanded polystyrene foam (EPS) When compared to buildings framed with dimensional lumber, SIPs cover greater surfaces and are laser cut off site, they fit precisely to form a more tightly sealed home with far less gaps in the walls and roofs, offering home and building owners better indoor air quality, reduced infiltration of outside pollutants, smaller HVAC systems needs and superior indoor temperature control. Hall & Wright Builders homes and buildings stay cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter than buildings framed with dimensional lumber. SIPS EPS insulations are free of chloroflourocarbons CFCs(ozone depleter) which earns it a green rating. The OSB is from fast-growing, renewable wood sources, no old growth wood is used. Even the sealant used to bond the panels is urea-formaldehyde free. Because the panels are cut offsite, they fit perfect and are easily assembled. This practice also greatly reduces job-site debris and clean up. It takes 50% less lumber product to build a SIPS house than a regular stick built home. All of these attributes combine to make SIPS more efficient and ecologically sound.
